Spurs officially sign Pondexter

August 29, 2018

The San Antonio Spurs announced Wednesday that they have agreed to a one-year deal with free agent swingman Quincy Pondexter.

The deal is worth just over $2 million, according to Spotrac.

The agreement between Pondexter and the Spurs was initially reported by ESPN on Monday.

Pondexter, 30, is trying to revive his career after a knee injury. He was the 26th overall pick of the 2010 draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder, who dealt him to the then-New Orleans Hornets.

The 6-foot-7 Pondexter averaged 2.0 points in 23 games for the Chicago Bulls last season before being released.

Pondexter missed the previous two seasons due to a left knee injury that occurred while he was a member of the New Orleans Pelicans. He told ESPN last year that he suffered a MRSA infection that complicated his recovery.

Overall, Pondexter has career averages of 5.0 points and 2.0 rebounds in 302 games (48 starts) with the Hornets, Memphis Grizzlies, Pelicans and Bulls.

Pondexter’s deal with San Antonio comes two days after longtime Spurs stalwart Manu Ginobili announced his retirement.
